Q: Are these suitable as a base layer under walking trousers on 8+ hour hikes? Do they chafe or have rough seams?

No they do not chaff or have rough seams. I wear mine to my work in a shop because the heating doesn't work and when I am out with the dog on long walkers. They are absolutely brilliant. Wash well and dry quickly.

Q: Are they lined with fleece or anything ?

no its just isotherm. trust me they do the job. I was always cold - 4 or 5 layers and a big thermo lined waterproof coat. still need layers but honestly I have been so toasty on 15 - 17 miles walks in the snow and ice lately..

No, not waterproof but are really nice quality but generous fitting better to order a size smaller than normal.
